About Us as a Company

About Us

Palmetto Fine Arts is owned and operated by a Newberry, SC native Thomas (TC) Bowers.  We opened in 2004 as a limited liability company to service the art and custom picture framing needs of Chapin and the many surrounding areas.  Palmetto Fine Arts does all its work "in house."  Your artwork never leaves the gallery and all our supplies are delivered to us weekly.  We custom cut and join each and every frame for your order, hand cut the matting for your picture as well as glass and backing board and install your wire hanger by hand on each and every piece of art that comes into our gallery.

We take pride in providing the best quality for least possible price.  We carry mouldings by venders known around the world for the quality and reliability; companies such as Omega Mouldings, Larson-Juhl and Roma Mouldings.  The same applies for the matting we use from the industry leaders in art preservation, Crescent and Bainbridge matt board companies.

Please take the time to shop around the website or even perhaps stop by the gallery to see our work in person!

How to Care for Your Artwork

Types of Artwork

What is the difference in types of Artwork:

Originals are the paintings that the artist sits down and hands paint to produce the prints off of.  Many artists paint their originals much larger than the prints so they can capture an amazing amount of detail with ease in their pictures.  This is the most collectable range of art and is reflected in price and quality.  One driving force of originals is the ability to have the one and only of a certain work of art if the original has never been reproduced in any way or form.

Reproductions are works of art that are made to look amazing like an original but are simply reproductions of an original.  This type of art is most familiar at such events as the “Starving Artist Shows” that are popular around Christmas time each year.  These are good for homes with many windows or if you want the original look without the price.  The only problem with these works of art is that the value of the reproduction never increases.

Limited Edition Prints are collector prints which will increase in value over time (once sold out).  These Prints are sometimes referred to as Signed and Numbered prints because each print has an individual number as well as the artists hand signed signature on each print.

Artist Proof Prints are essentially the same as the Limited Edition Prints.  The difference is in the numbers.  The Artist Proof Edition is typically consist of one tenth of the number of limited edition prints and therefore makes them more collectable and more valuable once sold out.  Once the edition is sold out, the artist proof prints are normally worth 1 ½ as much as the regular limited edition prints.

Open Edition Prints are sometimes also referred to as Classic Edition prints and more commonly simply as posters.  These prints are normally printed on the same press as the limited edition prints but on a lesser quality paper.  Most of the time these prints are released after all the signed and numbered prints of a work of art are sold out.

CUSTOM FRAMING

What is Custom Framing?

Custom framing is a specialized, personalized service that takes into consideration all aspects of a framing project.  The moulding, matting, and design are all taken into consideration to ensure that your masterpiece will be showcased properly while still displaying your own unique style and personality.

Why has Custom Framing always been viewed as Expensive?

Custom framing only seems expensive until you know and understand all that goes into each and every piece we frame.  There is a difference between purchasing “ready-made” frames and a “Custom Frame.”

Ready-Made picture frames are mass produced using lower grade moulding (often consisting of Plastic) and materials.  They are usually more simplistic in design and contain lower quality and more frail glass to support your artwork.  The hanging system is frail and the overall quality is reflected in the price.  As with all products, you get what you pay for.

With custom framing, the price reflects the personalization such as the selection process, design time, and the craftsmanship that goes into each piece made specifically for you.  Each custom frame is hand made, one at a time.  We will work with you to ensure your custom framed piece will be one to bring you enjoyment for years to come.

What are our Mouldings made of?

We are very selective about the moulding we choose to represent our name.  Our mouldings come from the nations leading venders, including the industry leader Larson-Juhl, as well as Omega, Nelson-Bainbridge, Roma and The Palmetto Group.  You will only find solid wood and metal mouldings in faux hand finished veneers, solid colors, stained, and gold and silver showcased in our showroom.  We do not showcase or sell any composite, polystyrene, or “wrapped” mouldings in our showrooms as they provide a compromise to our Craftsmanship Guarantee.

Do we require a deposit on Custom Framing Orders?

Simply answered, NO.  We want you to see your finished piece of art before paying for it.  If you already own the artwork there is no deposit required.  If you find a piece of artwork from our showroom and wish to have it framed, we simply ask that you purchase the artwork.  You can pay for the custom framing when your piece is finished and to your satisfaction.

Can you try items in your home before you purchase them?

YES!  As a matter of fact, we highly encourage you to take any framed artwork your heart desires home or to your office to see how it looks hanging on your wall.  If you like it, come back by or simply give us a call to make it yours.  If it doesn’t work, simply bring it back, no questions asked!

We Pledge that our craftsmanship, design, and price will never be surpassed!

 Our Craftsmanship Guarantee

Our success depends solely on our repetition.  We guarantee that your masterpiece will be free of all defects in its craftsmanship.  Our craftsmanship includes the moulding assembly, the mats, the mounting of your art, the dust covering and the hanging assembly.  Should a defect in our craftsmanship ever occur, we will replace the defective component absolutely free of charge.

Our Design Guarantee

We understand the hassles of trying to get everything “just so.”  If for some reason you do not absolutely fall in love with your masterpiece when you get it home, simply bring it back in.  We will work with you to correct the mats, frames, glazing choice, or any component of piece.  We will provide free labor for any changes needed to perfect your piece, you only pay 50% of the material cost as our gift to you.

 Our Price Guarantee

We are dedicated to bringing our customers the highest quality for the lowest price.  We accomplish this in a very simple manner, VOLUME.  Many custom framers rely on two or three projects a week to cover their overhead.  Palmetto Fine Arts normally completes ten to twenty custom framed pieces a week.  If you are able to find a lower price for the identical frame and design at another retail framing gallery, simply bring us a written quote within two weeks and we will gladly refund you 120% of the price difference.
